Board authorizes temporary site for storm debris management

The Jefferson Davis County Board of Supervisors met for the second meeting of the month April 21 at the board room in Prentiss. The meeting opened with prayer by board attorney Wes Daughdrill before the minutes were approved.
JDC Chief Deputy Frank Riley presented the board with two bids for tracking devices to be installed in the sheriff department’s 11 patrol vehicles. The board requested Riley get a second set of bids to include the total number of vehicles in the department, which is 16.
Les Dungan, County Engineer asked the board to authorize a temporary debris management site application submission to DEQ for county property adjacent to the rubbish facility.
Dungan also informed the board that the storm monitoring and removing debris bids will be opened May 5.
Pearl River Community College President Dr. Adam Breerwood and Board Chairman Tony Waits gave the supervisors a yearly update and provided information regarding opportunities for local students.
County attorney Wes Daughdrill and accountant Cathy Slocum gave end of the month reports.
The board approved the purchase for a 72” zero-turn lawn mower for the sheriff’s department. The used mower will be purchased from Mike’s Service Center in Columbia for $4,000.

•Approved payment of claim; limb on Shivers Booth Road in District 5.
•Approved spreading into the minutes Circuit Annual Financial Report, accepting overpayment on cap and payment of county portion to PERS.
•Approved spreading into the minutes Constable Davis annual financial report.
•Approved spreading into the minutes Employee Action Forms for Sheriff’s Department and District 2.
•Approved windshield repair in District 3 for $808.43.
•Approved officials and employees attending conventions and meetings
•Approved spreading into the minutes Fuelman Report and invoice for April 2025.
•Approved spreading into the minutes housing of prisoners for Department of Corrections, Lawrence County, Mt Olive and Prentiss.
•Approved payment of dozer work for connecting Rails to Trails to Prentiss Institute.
•Approved payment of invoices without a purchase order to Griffith’S Discount Tire for maintenance: $270.00 dated May 15, 2024 and $600.00 dated January 29.
•Approved payment of invoices to MASIT for property insurance for $366,013.12; ComSouth for $32,280.00 for yearly maintenance; Mississippi Association of County Board Attorneys for $150.00 and Griffith’s Discount Tire for District 4 (dated November 2024) for $338.00.
•Approved use of credit card for tire repair in District 3.
•Approved advertising county resources with WJDR for JDC Graduation.
•Approved claims.
